Vacancies for Data Protection Lawyers to work in Switzerland and France

A global multinational company is recruiting four Data Protection Legal Counsels, with differing levels of seniority and experience, at its offices in Zurich and Lyon. You will work with both the business and in-country attorneys from many countries and report to the Group Data Protection Officer. You will be able to support your business area with a high level of autonomy.

It is essential that you will have a deep knowledge of IT law and data protection requirements in Europe including the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

These are permanent positions but 1 or 2 year contracts on employee terms are also available.

The recruitment process has only two steps and so management will be able to take a decision without delay for candidates who fulfil the selection criteria.


1. Providing a point of focus for data protection issues to assist the development of the company’s businesses, and in-country attorneys as an expert advisor

2. Negotiating and reviewing international IT contracts including data protection and information security terms, and resolving any legal issues arising during the term of these contracts

3. Assessing IT solutions and digital initiatives from the EU data protection perspective and engaging with and supporting the company’s local in-country lawyers, and/or external lawyers where appropriate, to provide efficient and high quality support to the business

4. Assisting in developing and maintaining a network of privacy experts and champions among the company’s lawyers and businesses through education, training and following-up the data protection program

5. Collaborating with corporate teams in developing and documenting processes, policies and procedures designed to implement the GDPR and reduce data protection risk and/or

6. Assisting efforts to drive competitive differentiation for the company’s services.



1. Law degree. LLM is desirable

2. Ranging from at least 5 years of experience as an IT and data protection lawyer, ideally from a reputable international law firm, to at least 8 years data protection law and 7 years’ experience in other areas of IT law for the more senior roles

3. Ability to work in international and dynamic business environment - Experience in a multinational group of companies is a strong plus

4. The successful candidate must be able to quickly embrace constant change and can demonstrate strong business acumen

5. Must be action-oriented with an ability to prioritize and manage fast moving internal clients, think strategically and always adopt a problem-solving approach to issues and be customer service oriented

6. The candidate must be keen to learn and have a team spirit recognizing that the results are coming from the group’s efforts

7. English language is essential and another European language is an advantage

8. Efficient communication and relationship building within a fast moving, multicultural and international work environment is key

9. Project management experience and/or a management qualification is an advantage

10. Candidates from European Economic Area countries will be preferred
